Being Lights in Ireland

July 16th, 2010

This week we’ve been spending time at The Anchorage and in the community gardening, delivering flowers, and learning from Joe about the spiritual climate and challenges to ministering in Ireland. It has been an eye-opening time for us as the Donnellys have communicated their vision to see the gospel penetrate the hearts of those in the community around them.

Hunting for Treasure in Poland

July 12th, 2010

Poland 2Poland 3

Hi everyone! Wow. We can’t believe another week is over. SLOT festival was so amazing. The beautiful and huge monastery (one of the largest in Europe) created such a great atmosphere for the festival, run by Christians, proclaiming the gospel throughout the week in so many different ways and contexts. It was so interesting to see so many different lifestyles and music groups come together and live in harmony. The variety of music performed at the festival truly diversified the crowd. There were reggae fans, punk, hard rock, indie, pop…and apparently country!

From Camping to Line Dancing

July 5th, 2010

Hey there everyone! Wow. It’s the 4th of July and we are celebrating our country’s independence with the GEM team here in Poland. (Amazingly enough, Polish sausage is very tasty in Poland! :) ) We arrived here to our final destination yesterday and we leave tomorrow morning for the SLOT festival, which is truly going to be amazing! Go to www.slot.art.pl for more information on the festival. When you go to the page, click on the British flag in the upper right corner and then just explore. We’re so excited to see what God has in store for us at the festival! In order to connect with the participants, we will be leading a “Country Dancing” workshop every day for an hour and a half. Pray for us and the GEM Poland team, that God would use us average “Cotton-Eyed Joe’s” to “Boot-Scootin’ Boogie” the Gospel into peoples’ hearts!

We are really enjoying connecting with the GEM team here and have already learned a lot from them. We’re all excited for the upcoming two weeks of ministering together!

We’ll be at the festival until next Sunday so will probably miss our mid-week blog, but look forward to reporting the great and mighty things we’re anticipating God to do this week. Keep praying!

Love,

Rapping up in Armenia

July 1st, 2010

Hello again! We are pretty sad to say that this will be our last post from Armenia, as we leave here on Saturday, July 3 and head to our last stop in Poland. It will be hard to leave! Our time in Armenia could not have gone better. It’s been a busy two weeks filled with hiking, camping, visits to different churches and ministries, work projects, and LOTS of laughter and love. We have fallen in love with this country and her people. Read the rest of this entry »

God Changes Hearts in Armenia

June 28th, 2010

Hello again from Armenia!  We returned yesterday from our second camping trip, and to summarize it with one of Matthew’s favorite words, it was “SWEET!”  Along with our four national partners with whom we went on the prayer trip, (Mushegh, Anna, Slavic, and Ani,) we had 5 young adults.  All 5 were university students our partners know from their youth ministries.  They were awesome!  Even though they spoke very little English, God allowed us to connect with them quickly and we all enjoyed one another right from the start.  (Sara’s Armenian language ability was of course a HUGE help!)  :)

Teaching English in Croatia

June 28th, 2010

Study

The past week in Zagreb, Croatia kept us busy.  We spent time prepping for our Narnia English Camp that started Monday and lasted through Friday.  We started each day with Jonathan sharing a short tidbit about C.S. Lewis, the author of the story The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe, which our camp was based on.  Then we watched a segment of the movie that the day’s material was based on.

Backpacking Through Armenia

June 22nd, 2010

Setting up TentGroup Camping

Barev! Well, we are in Armenia now and having a great time. Our first camping trip was amazing. We stayed in tree different locations in three nights praying, getting to know each other, and just doing life in the wild. The first night we prayed for Garni, which has the last standing pagan temple dating back before Armenia became a Christian nation in 300AD. The king at the time destroyed every temple, but this one.
